ABOUT

I am a board-certified surgeon with 10+ years of publishing and writing experience.

EDUCATION AND CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

In 1997 earned my BA in Art History at Creighton University, Omaha, NE. My doctorate was awarded in 2002 from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. From 2002-2007 I was a resident in General Surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Hospital in Wilmington, NC.

After practicing general surgery for two years, I decided to further specialize and completed a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at Washington University, Saint Louis, MO. I've been an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Washington University since 2010. The responsibilities of this appointment include patient care and plain language communication, original research, scientific presentations, and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team.

I am comfortable with all medical subspecialties but have significant experience in surgical and oncological topics.

PUBLICATIONS

I'm the first or senior author on multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts and have contributed to other published manuscripts.

My publications also include editorials, book chapters, and online modules.

EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

From 2015-2018 I served on the Editorial Board of Annals of Surgical Oncology. I continue to provide peer review services for this publication.

I'm also a peer reviewer for multiple (12+) journals, including Journal of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Breast Cancer Research and Treatment, Journal of Cancer Therapeutics and Research, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, and CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.

ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE

In addition to being a funded grant writer, I have experience writing abstracts, creating CME materials, authoring guidelines, performing literature searches, analyzing data, developing research protocols and documents, creating posters and powerpoint presentations, editing and proofreading, analyzing adverse events, and writing plain language documents for patients and a lay audience.

Since 2011 I've been a reviewer for the Washington University Institutional Review Board and have evaluated hundreds of research protocols, consent documents, adverse event reports, and Investigator's Brochures.

I am familiar with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Powerpoint, and literature search software.
